Abstract
Car ownership and driving licence possession are essential factors in describing mobility, as has been shown in numerous transportation studies. This paper describes the development and application of models to predict changes in these variables, which were found to be impossible to treat independently. These models were developed from the Zuidvleugel home interview data. The driving licence and first car ownership models chiefly work with socio-economic data, but the second car model shows a strong influence of accessiblity. To illustrate the application of the models, and their interaction with the Zuidvleugel travel demand models, two evaluations were run. The first shows the expected effect on car ownership of a general economic decline, the second predicts the influence on car ownership and travel demand of a shift in tax from car ownership to petrol.
