Abstract
This paper surveys the building of natural gas, crude oil, refined products, natural gas liquids, carbon dioxide, and slurry pipelines in various countries. Notes that new construction has slowed because of lessened economic activity, an increased supply of oil and gas, high interest rates, inflation, and armed conflicts. It presents a table on international pipeline construction (type of line, miles underway, planned) and illustrations of Italy's 48-in. Trans-Mediterranean Pipeline and the St. Fergus-Mossmoran gas liquids pipeline in Scotland. This paper reveals that the Soviet 5-yr. plan (1981-85) calls for 20,000 miles of gas, 7,000 miles of oil, and 4,000 miles of products pipelines.
