Abstract
The 'Transport for People with Mobility Handicaps, Zurich' concept or 'BTZ' is described briefly. The inadequacy of the current situation in meeting the objectives of integration of handicapped people is considered and principles set out to improve the situation. The concept aims at creating and guaranteeing a professional service by means of a special transport system with its own special vehicles and trips using normal taxis provided by private taxi-owners. Three groups of the mobility-handicapped are identified and their rights explained. The number of journeys required is estimated. Details are given of the vehicles and personnel that will be required for the BTZ scheme. A breakdown of the costs and how they will be met is presented. When put to the vote the concept was approved by 90% of citizens. For the covering abstract see IRRD 853163.
