Abstract
The report deals with various approaches to problems in connection with design, construction equipment and costs for city tunnels in rock. The ventilation system and safety equipment in tunnels are discussed from the point of view of tunnel length and traffic conditions. The conclusion is that the longer the tunnel is, the more complicated the ventilation system becomes, and more equipment must be installed in the tunnel. Construction and operation costs for road tunnels in rock have been collected, and unit prices have been chosen on this basis. An approximately 6 km long tunnel on the moss highway in Oslo has been cost evaluated for different design alternatives. (TRRL)
