Abstract

THE OBJECT OF THIS CONTRIBUTION IS TO REVIEW THE EXPERIENCE ACQUIRED DURING THE CONSTRUCTION OF A LARGE NUMBER OF ROAD AND MOTORWAY TUNNELS IN OFTEN DIFFICULT TERRAIN AND TO CONSIDER THE DESIGN OF ROAD TUNNELS AS REGARDS MINIMUM SAFETY CRITERIA. EXAMPLES ARE GIVEN OF URBAN TUNNELS, WATERPROOFING OF TUNNELS, TUNNEL LINING AND DRAINAGE, TRANSVERSE PROFILES AND THEIR GEOMETRIC CHARACTERISTICS, ROAD HEATING ON APPROACH ROADS, VENTILATION EQUIPMENT, AND CONSTRUCTION COSTS. TABLES GIVING LENGTHS OF 2-TUBE TUNNELS, 1-TUBE TUNNELS, VENTILATED AND LIGHTED LENGTHS FOR EXISTING TUNNELS AND TUNNELS UNDER CONSTRUCTION IN ITALY ARE APPENDED. THIS PUBLICATION IS IN FRENCH.
