Abstract

SHRP research includes five major studies on the corrosion of reinforcing steel in concrete caused by salt ingress. These studies cover nondestructive testing, cathodic protection, chloride removal, physical and chemical rehabilitation methods and the development of an overall rehabilitation methodology for corrosion damaged structures. This paper summarizes the research and highlights some of the most important products of SHRP's research on concrete and structures, showing how they can benefit the highway community in the U.S. and around the world.
