Abstract
Objective To determine the expression levels of vascular endotheliul growth factor(VEGF)and placental growth factor(PLGF)in the placeta tissue of patients with preeclampsia and eclampsia and explore the relationship of VEGF and PLGF to preeclampsia and eclampsia. Methods Determine the expression levels of VEGF and PLGF in the placenta tissues of 20 healthy pregnant women,20 pregnant women with mild preeclampsia,20 pregnant women with seveve preeclumpsia and 20 pregnant women with eclampsia by streptavidin-biotin-peroxidase complex(SABC)technique. Results VEGF and PLGF were mainly expressed in trophoblast, next in decidua and endothelial cells, and also in stroma. The expression levels of VEGF and PLGF were significantly lower in the placenta tissues of pregnant women with preeclampsia than in those of healthy pregnant women, and significantly lower in pregnant women with severe preeclampsia than in those with mild preeclampsia. However, the expression in the placenta tissues of pregnant women with eclampsia showed no significant difference from those with severe preeclumpsia. Conclusion The decreased expression of VEGF and PLGF in placenta tissues may be an important cause for preeclampsia and eclampsia.
