Abstract
Objective:To detect the expression of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α(HIF-1α) in placenta and the expression of placenta growth factor(PlGF) in maternnal serum from normal pregnancy and preeclampsia. To investigate their correlation and the relationship with pathogenesis of preeclampsia. Methods:The expression of HIF-1α in placenta collected from 40 preeclampsia patients and 20 normotensive controls was determined by immunohistochemistry.PlGF level in the maternal venous serum was measured by enzyme linked immunoassay(ELISA).Results:The expression of HIF-1α of placental tissues was significantly higher in mild and severe preeclampsia groups than in normal pregnancy group.PlGF level in the maternal serum from mild preeclampsia group and severe preeclampsia group was significantly lower than those from normal pregnancies. Conclusions:PlGF expression in maternal serum was depended on the expression of HIF-1α in placenta.Increased expression of HIF-1α in placental tissues and the decline of PlGF in serum might play important roles in pathogenesis of preeclampsia.
