Comparative study of aripiprazole and quetiapine on treatment of schizophrenia

Objective To compare efficacy and safety of aripiprazole and quetiapine on the treatment of schizophrenia. Methods 142 patients with first episode schizophrenia were randomly divided into aripiprazole groupor quetiapine group. Positive and negative symptom scale (PANSS) and treatment emergent symptom cale (TESS) were used to evaluate the efficacy and adverse events of drugs before and after 2,4,8 weeks of treatments. Results The therapeutic efficacy in aripiprazole group was similar to that in quetiapine, the curative effectiveness of aripiprazole was 81.69%, and the curative effectiveness of quetiapine was 78.87%, there was no significant different between the two groups(P ＞ 0. 05 ). The side effects of aripiprazole is less than that of quetiapine, there was significant different between the two groups (P ＜ 0. 05 ). Conclusion Aripiprazole is one of effective and safe drugs in the treatment of schizophrenia. Key words: Schizophrenia;  Aripizole;  Quetiapine
