The comparation between amniotic membrane grafting and auto transplantation of the corneal limbal stem cells in treatment of pterygium

Abstract
Objective To observe the clinical effects of amniotic membrane grafting and auto transplantation of the corneal limbal stem cells in the treatment of pterygium. Methods There were 70 patients (76 eyes) with pterygium, all being excised under operating microscope, and they were divided randomly into two groups:the treatment of pterygium with amniotic membrane grafting( group A,40 cases and 42 eyes) and the treatment of pterygium with transplantation of the corneal limbal stem cells ( group B, 30 cases and 34eyes). The postoperative follow-up period was from 12 to 18 months. Results Four eyes of 42 eyes (9.52%) in group A and three eyes of 34 eyes (8.82%) in group B recurred with pterygium. Conclusion The clinical effects between amniotic membrane grafting and transplantation of the corneal limbal stem cells in the treatment of pterygium are closed to each other.
