Abstract

Objective To comparativy analyze the clinical effects of corneal limbal stem cell grafting combined with amniotic membrane transplantation and only amniotic membrane transplantation on patients with primary pterygium. Methods 156 cases(187 eyes) with primary pterygium were randomly divided into two groups(A and B). 79 cases(96 eyes) were treated with corneal limbal stem cell grafting combined with amniotic membrane transplantation in group A,and 77 cases (91 eyes) were treated with only amniotic membrane transplantation in group B.All cases were followed up for 24 months. Results The average recovering time of corneal wound were 2.0 days(group A) and 3.0 days (group B) respectively(P0.05), 3 eyes(3.2%), in group A showed recurrence during postoperative terms, but 13 eyes(18.82%) in group B showed recurrence. There was statistically significance between the two groups(P0.05). Conclusion The treatment of corneal limbal stem cell grafting combined with amniotic membrane transplantation can shorten the corneal wound recovering time, decrease the recurrent rate. So it should be worthy of extending.
