Abstract

Objective To observe the efficacy of grafting of corneal margin stem cell and amniotic membrane for pterygium. Methods The observation was conducted in 325 cases(280 eyes) with pterygium. The patients were randomized to corneal margin stem cell transplantation group(group A) and amniotic membrane transplantation group(group B).In group A:215 cases(280 eyes) were treated with grafting of corneal limbal stem cell;Group B:110 cases(145 eyes) with grafting of amniotic membrane. Results About one year follow up showed 9 eyes in group A were recurred(3.21%);12 eyes in Group B were recurred(8.28%).Conclusion Both corneal margin stem cell and amniotic membrane grafting are effective in treatment of pterygium with a low recurrence rate, while the corneal wound is repaired faster and lower recurrence rate in corneal margin stem cell transplantation which is a better method for pterygium.
