Abstract

Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of different surgical methods for the treatment of pterygium. Methods Retrospective clinical study. The data of 236 eyes of 213 patients with primary pterygium were analyzed.All cases were randomly divided into 3 groups: group A, 85 eyes of 77 patients, received pterygium excision and superior nasal pedicled conjunctival flap transplantation; group B, 79 eyes of 71 cases, received superior temporal free conjunctival flap transplantation after resection; group C, 72 eyes of 65 cases, received superior temporal corneal limbal stem cell autologous conjunctival flap transplantation. Results The patients were followed up for 6 months to 2 years. The recurrence rates of the three groups were 8.2%, 5.1%, and 4.2%, respectively. The difference was not significant among the three groups (P>0.05). Conclusion All three surgical methods can effectively treat primary pterygium with low recurrence rate.
