Abstract
Objective To observe the clinical efficacies of two different surgical methods in the treatment of pterygium.Methods Seventy patients with primary pterygium(90 eyes) were randomly assigned to receive pterygium excision alone(group A,35 patients,45 eyes) or in combination with autologous conjunctival flap surgery(group B,35 patients,45 eyes).Corneal wound healing time and recurrence rate were compared between the two groups after follow-up for 1 year.Results The corneal wound healing time in group A was significantly longer than that in group B(P0.01).However,the recurrence rate in group A(20.0%) was significantly higher than that in group B(4.4%)(P0.05).Conclusion Pterygium excision combined with autologous conjunctival flap transplantation is effective for pterygium.
