Abstract
Objective:To observe the clinical efficacy of pedicle conjunctival flap transplantation under microscope in the treatment of pterygium.Methods:Eighty-nine cases (93 eyes) were randomly divided into two groups. Patients in Group A were treated under microscope,while those in Group B were treated without microscope. All cases were followed-up for 6 to 15 months. Results:In Group A,only one eye in 50 (47 patients) recurred. The recurrence rate was 2.00%,while in Group B of 42 patients (43 eyes),pterygium recurred in 6 eyes. The recurrence rate was 13.95%. The difference between them was statistically significant. Conclusions:Pterygium excision with pedicle conjunctival flap transplantation under microscope can significantly reduce the recurrence rate of pterygium.
