An analysis on the causes of adverse reactions associated with blood transfusion

Objective To seek an effective method for reducing the occurrence of adverse reactions associated with blood transfusion by analyzing those adverse reactions in our hospital.Methods The medical history and the report sheets for transfusion reactions in 3455 patients who had received blood transfusion during the period of January 2007 to June 2011 were reviewed.The adverse reactions were statistically analyzed.Results 30 of all of the 3455 patients ( 0.87％ ) developed adverse reactions associated with transfusion,The most frequent adverse reactions were caused by suspended red blood cells,fresh frozen plasma and platelets.They were non soluble transfusion reactions,including 19 cases of fever,9 cases of hypersensitivity,and 2 cases of general malaise.23 patients occured reactions within 1 h,5 within 2 h,and 2 with 3 h.Conclusions We should stick to the principle of rational blood transfusion.Proper measures taken before transfusion can effectively reduce the rate of adverse reactions associated with blood transfusion.
