Observation on the therapeutic effect of oral administration of glucosamine combined with intraarticular injection of sodium hyaluronate on knee osteoarthritis

Objective To observe the therapeutic effect and safety of oral administration of glucosamine combined with intra-articular injection of sodium hyaluronate on knee osteoarthritis.Methods Eighty-two patients with knee osteoarthritis were randomly divided into two groups:the control group (40 patients)were given intra-articular injection of sodiom hyaluronate,the observation group (42 patients) were given intra-articular injection of sodium hyaluronate and oral administration of glucosamine sulfate.The course of treatment was 5 weeks in both groups.The functional status of knee were assessed by Lyrsholm knee rating scale before and after treatment.Results The Lysholm knee various score and the aggregate score of patients in observation group were significantly higher than those in control group ( P ＜0.01 ) ; The marked improvement rate and total effective rate of patients in observation group were significantly higher than those in control group( x2 =9.3360,4.8308,P ＜ 0.01 ) ; The serious adverse reactions were not found in the two groups.The cure rate of patients in observation group was significantly higher than that in control group( x2 =4.0821,P ＜0.05 ) at 12 mooths follow-up after treatment.Conclusions It has dual advantages of rapid effect and lasting efficacy that oral administration of glucosamine combined with intra-articular injection of sodium hyaluronate in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis,it has a better effect than simple intra-articular injection of sodium hyaluronate,and is safe,so is worthy of recommendation in clinics.
