Abstract
Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of sublingual immunotherapy with standardized dermatophagoides farinae drops for allergic rhinitis in children. Methods The symptom scores and medication scores were compared in 125 pediatric patients with allergic rhinitis one year after sublingual immunotherapy. The efficacy of immunotherapy was assessed and the adverse reactions were noted to assess the safety of the therapy. Results As compared with the baselines, the symptom and medication scores were significantly lower in all the patients one year after treatment ( P< 0.01 ), with an effectiveness rate of 81.6%. Six patients developed local adverse reactions, but no severe systemic adverse reactions occurred. Conclusions Sublingual immunotherapy with standardized dermatophagoides farinae drops is safe and effective in treating pediatric patients with allergic rhinitis caused by dermatophagoides farinae.
