Dosage and efficacy of simvastatin for hyperlipidemia in elderly patients

Abstract
Objectives To explore the dosage and efficacy of simvastatin for hyperlipidemia in elderly patients.Methods 94 elderly hyperlipidemia patients were randomly divided into a large dosage group and a small dosage group,47 cases for each group.These two groups were treated with simvastatin 20 mg/d and 10 mg/d,respectively.The efficacies of both groups were observed.Results All lipid indicators were enormously better in the large dosage group than in the small dosage group after the treatment (P ＜ 0.05).The efficacy was 95.74％ in the large dosage group and was 82.98％ in the small dosage group (P ＜ 0.05).There was no statistical difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P ＞ 0.05).Conclusions Large dosage (20 mg/d) of simvastatin for elderly hyperlipidemia patients is quite effective and safe.
