The transplantion of amniotic membrane grafting and mitomycin C in treatment of recurrent pterygium

Objective To study the transplantion of amniotic membrane grafting and mitomycin C (MMC) in treatment of recurrent pterygium.Methods 42 cases(45 eyes) of recurrent pterygium were envolved.All of them had accepted pterygium excision and amniotic membrane grafting.The MMC was not applicated in group A(21 cases,22 eyes).Only 21 cases(23 eyes) in group B had undergone a piece of cotton contained 0.2 mg/mL MMC being put on the exposed sclera for 5 min in the surgery.Results The followup was 12 months,4 eyes (18.18％) in group A and 1 eye (4.3％) in group B recurred.There were obvious difference between the two groups (P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion Transplantation of amniotic membrane grafting and mitomycin C can prevent postoperative recurrence of pterygium.It is effective and simple for recurrent ptrergium.
