Abstract

Objective:To explore clinical values of Mitomycin(MMC)under low concentration in excision of pterygium with Naphcon-A.Methods:Patients with primary pterygium were randomized into three groups.Group A(experiment group,80eyes of 68patients)received the preoperative MMC under low concentration with Naphcon-A.Group B(control group 1,77eyes of 64patients)received MMC in excision of pterygium with the amniotic membrane transplantation. Group C(control group 2,73eyes of 63patients)received MMC in excision of pterygium with limbal epithelial autograft transplantation.Recurrence and complication of all cases were monitored after surgery in one week, two weeks, one month, there months, one year, and two years. Results:After clinical follow-up for 6-24months,three eyes of the 80eyes in the group A had recurrence(3.75%).Ten eyes of the 77eyes in group B had recurrence(12.99%).Nine eyes of 73 eyes in group C had recurrence(12.33%).And difference in recurrence rate was found between experimental group and control groups(P0.05).Conclusion:In order to effectively prevent of pterygium from relapse and reduce complications,it is important to use preoperative MMC under low concentration with Naphcon-A in excision of pterygium.
