Abstract

Objective To investigate the correlation between cerebrovascular disease risk and homocysteine (Hcy). Methods One hundred patients with cerebrovascular disease who confirmed by CT included 50 cases of cerebral hemorrhage (cerebral hemorrhage group) and 50 cases of cerebral infarction (cerebral infarction group).Eighty healthy person were selected as control group. The plasma Hcy was determined in all the subjects. The risk factors induced cerebral vascular disease were analyzed by multiple linear regression analysis and the correlation between cerebrovascular disease risk and Hcy was investigated. Results The plasma Hcy in cerebral hemorrhage group and cerebral infarction group was higher than that in control group[(19.87 ± 5.23),(19.64 ± 4.98) μ mol/L vs.(14.54 + 3.58) μ mol/L,P < 0.05].There was no significant difference in the plasma Hcy between cerebral hemorrhage group and cerebral infarction group (P > 0.05).Multiple linear regression analysis showed that Hcy was independently associated with cerebral hemorrhage and cerebral infarction (P < 0.05).Conclusion The plasma Hcy in patients with cerebrovascular disease is higher than that in the normal population, and Hcy is independently associated with cerebrovascular disease. The plasma Hcy has an important role for prediction and diagnosis of cerebrovascular disease. Key words: Cerebral hemorrhage;  Brain infarction;  Homocysteine
