Abstract

Objective To investigate the correlation between tumor metastasis-associated gene 1 (MTA1) and vascular endothelial growth factor C (VEGF-C) protein in the development of stomach carcinoma. Methods Immunohistochemical staining (SP method) was used to detect the expression of MTA1 and VEGF-C in 48 cases of stomach carcinoma tissue and the corresponding tissue adjacent to carcinoma, and 20 cases of normal stomach mucosa tissues. Results The positive expression rate of MTA1 in cancer tissues was significantly higher than in the tissue adjacent to carcinoma and normal tissues (68.75%,52.08% and 35.00%).The positive expression rate of VEGF-C in cancer tissues was significantly higher than in the tissue adjacent to carcinoma and normal tissues (85.42%,64.58% and 45.00%).Both MTA1 and VEGF-C expression was correlated with tumor invasion depth and lymph node metastasis. The expression of MTA1 and VEGF-C had a linear correlation. Conclusion MTA1 may be involved in the development of stomach carcinoma possibly through VEGF-C signaling pathways. Key words: Tumor metastasis-associated gene 1 ;  Vascular endothelial growth factor C;  Stomach carcinoma
