Abstract

Objective To explore the expression of Mta-1 and VEGF in hepatocellular carcinoma tissues and normal hepatic tissues and their correlation. Methods The expression of Mta-1 and VEGF in 63 cases of hepatocellular carcinoma and 10 cases of normal liver tissues was examined by immunohistochemical method. The correlation of Mta-1 and VEGF expression and their correlation with the clinical parameters such as tumor size, pathologic type, clinical stage, and lymphnode matastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma were analyzed. Results The positive rates of Mta-1 and VEGF expression in hepatocellular carcinoma tissues were higher than those in normal liver tissues (χ2=10.59,χ2=6.42,P0.01). The expression of Mta-1 in hepatocellular carcinoma tissues was related to tumor size, clinical stage, pathologic type, lymph node metastasis, portal venous invasion and distant metastasis (P0.01). The expression of VEGF in hepatocellular carcinoma tissues was related to clinical stage, pathologic type, lymph node metastasis, portal venous invasion and distant metastasis (P0.01). Positive correlation was found between VEGF and Mta-1 expression (rs=0.712,P0.05). Conclusions There are over-expression of Mta-1 and VEGF in hepatocellular carcinoma tissues. Mta-1 expression combined with VEGF expression may have synergistic effect on hepatocellular carcinoma progression and provide a theoretical basis for application of molecular targeted drugs.
