Abstract

Objective To investigate the expressions and clinical significance of metastasis-associated gene 1(MTA1),vascular endothelial growth factor C(VEGF-C) proteins in human lung carcinoma and normal lung tissue, and the relationship between their expressions. Methods The tissue microarray technique was used to prepare for tissue microarray in 186 cases of lung carcinoma and 23 cases of normal lung tissue. The expressions of MTA1 and VEGF-C proteins were detected using immuno-histochemical method. Results In lung carcinoma, the positive expressions rates of MTA1 and VEGF-C were 62.8%(103/186) and 64%(119/186),while 0(0/23) and 17.4%(4/23) in normal tissue respectively, showing the expressions of MTA1 and VEGF-C proteins in carcinoma tissue were significantly higher than that of in normal tissue(all P 0.01).The expressions of MTA1 and VEGF-C proteins were significantly correlated with lymph node metastasis and clinical stages(P 0.05),but not with gender, ages, tumor sizes and histological classification(P 0.05).There was correlation between MTAI expression and VEGF-C expression(P 0.01).Conclusion MTA1 and VEGF-C play a key role in the pathogenesis of NSCLC.Combined detection of MTA1 and VEGF-C may serve as an important parameter to evaluate the invasion and metastasis of this malignancy.
