Effects of Jiangxuan Pingchuan decoction combined with western medicine on patients with acute attack of bronchial asthma

Objective To investigate the effects of Jiangxuan Pingchuan decoction combined with western medicine on patients with acute attack of bronchial asthma. Methods Ninety-six patients with bronchial asthma treated in Huangdao District Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from May 2016 to September 2017 were selected and divided into the observation group (n=48) and the control group (n=48) according to the random number table method. The control group was treated with conventional western medicine; based on the treatment of control group, the observation group was treated with Jiangxuan Pingchuan decoction additionally, and the two groups were treated for 1 week. The clinical efficacy of the two groups was recorded, and the traditional chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome scores, levels of peripheral blood immunoglobulin E (IgE) and eosinophil (EOS), airway responsiveness, including response threshold (Dmin), minimum concentration of resistance increase (Cmin), were compared between the two groups before treatment and after 1 week of treatment. Results The clinical efficacy of the observation group was significantly better than that of the control group (P<0.05). After 1 week of treatment, the TCM syndrome scores and levels of IgA and EOS in the two groups were lower than those before treatment (P<0.05), while the levels of Dmin and Cmin were significantly higher than those before treatment (P<0.05), and the changes in the observation group were greater than those in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusions Jiangxuan Pingchuan decoction combined with conventional western medicine for patients with acute attack of bronchial asthma has good treatment effects, and it can not only effectively alleviate the TCM syndrome, improve the airway inflammatory response, but also reduce the airway responsiveness, which is conducive to prognosis of patients.
