On the Special Writing Way in the Popular Prose Style in Song Dynasty

Abstract

The slogan of imitating ancient prose style which was of great influence in both the Ming and Qing Dynasties originates from Tang Geng's slogan in Northern Song Dynasty that popular prose should imitate the way of ancient prose style.Tang's view resulted in the trend of returning to Ouyang Xiu and Su Shi through methods of guiding popular prose composition via way of ancient prose style criticism,making a composition peak of popular prose style in the period of Qiandao and Chunxi in Southern Song Dynasty.However,the practice of popular prose composition only imitating some techniques of ancient prose style had serious flaws.
