Abstract
Objective:To investigate relationship between the expression of VEGF and Ki67 in human cervix squamous cell carcinoma and the tumor invasion or lymph node metastasis. Methods:The expression of VEGF and Ki67 was detected by using S-P immunohistochemical method in 45 cases of cervix tissue including invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix and normaI cervix tissue. Results:No VEGF expression showed in normal cervix tissue, but the VEGF expression rate was 48.57% in cervix carcinoma. The VEGF expression was positively related to the pathological grade, lymph node metastasis and clinical stage(χ2=10.3001,P0.01;χ2=10.1521,P0.01;χ2=5.9063,P0.05).The Ki67 expression showed no relation to the clinical stage and pathological grading, but was positively related to the lymph node metastasis(χ2=2.6662,P0.05;χ2=0.8649,P0.05;χ2=11.9442,P0.01). Conclusion:The expression levels of VEGF and Ki67 might play an important role in carcinogenesis, development, invasion and metastasis of cervical cancer, which could serve as a marker to evaluate the prognosis of squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix, and Ki67 could act as an index in the progress of squamous carcinoma of the cervix.
