Abstract

Objective:To explore the expression of VEGF-C in human esophageal squamous carcinoma and its relationship with lymph node metastasis. Methods:The expression of VEGF-C in 49 specimens of esophageal squamous carcinoma and normal tissues were detected by immunohistochemistry. Results: The positive rates of VEGF-C were 71.4%(35/49) and 12.2%(6/49) in esophageal squamous carcinoma and normal tissue(P0.05) respectively. The expression of VEGF-C was significantly higher in cases with lymph node metastasis 73.3%(22/30) than in those without lymph node metastasis 32.6%(6/19),(P0.05).Conclusion: There is an overexpression of VEGF-C in esophageal squamous carcinoma tissues.Which may correlate with lymph node metastasis. The expression of VEGF-C might be used as a useful marker of lymph node metastasis in esophageal squamous carcinoma.
