A Comprehensive Analysis of the Cause of Death of Residents Living in Jiangmen City in 2008

Objective To analyze the leading causes of death of residents living in Jiangmen city so as to provide the science basis for the establishment of prevention and control schemes of diseases. Method The analysis was achieved through the calculation of the death rate and ranking the cause of death reported by the Jiangmen city in 2008. Results There were 23734 reports of death. The death rate was 701.33/100000. The male death rate was higher than the female. The ten leading causes of death, ranked from high to low,were circulatory system disease, tumor, aging,respiratory disease, injury and poisoning, digestive disease, diagnosis unknown, endocrine,nutritional and metabolic disease,infectious and parasitic disease,and urinary system disease. The different gender group and different age group are not the same as the sequence of death cause. Conclusions Circulatory system disease, tumor,respiratory disease, injury and poisoning are the leading causes of death in Jiangmen city. Further improvement on the community health services,strengthening the prevention and treatment of chronic non-communicable diseases, and injury surveillance should be carried out.
