An analysis on the outcome of technique & skill examination for new nurses before becoming formal ones and training

Objectives: To analyze and explore the outcome of technique skill examination for new nurses before becoming formal ones. To provide evidence for new nurse education, training and management. Methods: Questionnaire was used to collect data among 154 new nurses in the hospital. The records of technique skill examination for new nurses before becoming formal ones were analyzed retrospectively, using statistic tests. Results: There were 9675 percent of nurses getting a score equal to or more than 80. The highest score and the lowest score was related to the operational skill and the catheterization skill respectively. Incorrect exp-data checking, insufficient nurse-patient communication, without hand washing after performing, insufficient humanity ideas, improper post used treatment, spanning the sterile surface, and without checking the physician orders before performing were the main errors in the examination. Conclusion: It is very telling to manage new nurses systemically and strictly according to the training plan. Meanwhile, managers should strengthen the aseptic concept, the consciousness of performing checking regulation, and the patient-centered nursing ideas among new nurses.
