Abstract

Objective:To study the mechanism of Jianpi Wenzhong formula (JWF) treating irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) of spleen gastric deficiency type. Methods: Fifty wistar rats were divided randomly into 5 groups: normal group (NG), model group (MG), high dosage herb treated group (HG), low dosage herb treated group (LG) and Dicetel treated group (DG). Each group received 0.9 % NaCl, 0.9 % NaCl, Jianpi Wenzhong decoction of high dosage, Jianpi Wenzhong decoction of low dosage and Dicetel respectively. Changes in body weight, degree of diarrhea, charcoal suspension pushing rate and concentrations of somatostatin (SS) and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) in plasma and intestinal tissue were determined. Results:JWF could effectively increase body weight, improve diarrhea of IBS rats of spleen gastric deficiency type and lower the increased concentrations of SS and VIP in a dose dependent manner. Conclusion: The mechanism of JWF in the treatment of IBS was to adjust the disordered secretion and release of gastrointestinal hormones.
