Abstract

To explore the mechanism of Shugan Decoction in the treatment of diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome(D-IBS) from the perspective of gastrointestinal hormone,42 Wistar rats were divided randomly into 6 groups:normal group, model group,large-dose herb group,middle-dose herb group,small-dose herb group and Dicetel group. The latter 5 groups of rats were administered respectively with physiological saline,large-dose herb,middle-dose herb,small-dose herb and Dicetel individually for 3days;on the third day acute water-avoidance stress was given to establish similar model of D-IBS.Concentrations of gastrointestinal hormones(VIP,SP) in plasma and intestinal tissue were detected. Results:The concentrations of VIP and SP in plasma and intestinal tissue in model group were higher than those in normal group (P0.05);large-dose Shugan Decoction could lower the elevated concentrations of VIP and SP,with no statistical significance(P0.05) between large-dose herb group and Dicetel group. Conclusion:Shugan Decoction acts to treat D-IBS probably by adjusting the secretion and release of gastrointestinal hormones.
