Abstract

Objective To understand the clinical distribution of Escherichia coli infection in urinary system and its drug resistance. Methods Specimen isolation, bacteria identification and drug susceptibility test were used to analyze the urine specimens of inpatients in one hospital from January 2010 to June 2011.Results In one and a half years in the hospital,289 strains of Escherichia coli were isolated, and the positive rate of ESBLs was 55.02%.Most of the bacteria strains came from the departments of urology, neurosurgery and renal department of internal medicine. The drug resistance rates of those Escherichia coli to Ampicillin,Piperacillin,Ciprofloxacin and L-ofloxacin were more than 60%,and they were more sensitive to Ertapenem,Imipenem,Meropenem,Cefotetan and Piperacillin/Tazobactam.Conclusion The drug resistance of the Escherichia coli isolated from the urine specimens of inpatients is serious. Therefore, the control of antibacterial drugs should be improved.
