Abstract

Objective:To observe the effect of losartan on the treatment of hypertension during 8 weeks.Methods:150 patients with primary hypertension were divided into treatment group and control group. The treatment group was treated with losartan of 50 mg/d for 8 weeks. The others were treated with captopril of 25 mg twice a day for 8 weeks as well. The efficacy and safety were evaluated with clinical, biochemical and blood pressure parameters. Results:Blood pressure was significantly reduced both in treatment group or control group. No difference was observed in the effect of controlling blood pressure in the two groups. No change in heart rate and blood parameters was observed in this study.Hacking cough was observed in control group but not in treatment group. Conclusion:Losartan is an effective and safe drug for the treatment of primary hypertension. In addition, the possibility of occurring side-effects of losartan is much lower than captopril.
