Abstract

AIM:To observe the effects of Chinese nutgalls extracts on the DNA synthesis and changes of cell cycle of human gingival fibroblast (HGF) induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS).METHODS:Human gingival fibroblasts were stimulated by LPS at the concentration of 25 μg/mL. Flow cytometry (FCM) was used to examine the effect of extracts from Chinese nutgalls at the concentration of 20 μg/mL on the DNA synthesis and chanes of HGF cell cycle.RESULTS:The percentage of human gingival fibroblast in G1 phase during exponential growth was increased by LPS, while the percentage of human gingival fibroblast in S phase was decreased. Extracts from Chinese Nutgalls ameliorated this phenomenon.CONCLUSION:Extracts from Chinese Nutgalls can significantly ameliorate the inhibitory effect on the proliferation of human gingival fibroblast induced by LPS, thus suggesting the anti-inflammatory effect of Chinese Nutgalls in treatment and.prevention of periodontal diseases.
