Abstract

Objective:To study the inhibitory effects of icariin, emodin and baicalin on human gingival fibroblasts (HGF)stimulated by the bacterial endotoxin lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Method:In this protocol, different conditions of e-modin,baicalin and icariin were added to the culture of human gingival fibroblasts. MTT assay and enzyme-linked im-munosorbent assay were used to examine the effects of these compounds on the inhibitory effects of the proliferation of human gingival fibroblast and the release of PGE2 induced by E-LPS. Result:E-LPS show cytotoxity on HGF and, while each of these compounds can increase the cell survival rate significantly (p0.01). The quantity of PGE2 of the cell culture media stimulated by E-LPS were significantly higher than added icariin, emodin or baicalin simultaneous (p0.01). Conclusion: The study suggests that the compound of icariin, emodin and baicalin can ameliorate the cytotoxity of E-LPS and inhibit the release of PGE2 by human gingival fibroblasts stimulated with E-LPS.
