Effect of Yangxue Gushen Decoction on Pain Score and Bone Mineral Density of Women with Postmenopausal Osteoporosis

Objective:To investigate the effect of Yangxue Gushen Decoction,a Chinese herbal compound,on the pain score and bone mineral density(BMD) of women with postmenopausal osteoporosis.Methods:Ninety patients with postmenopausal osteoporosis were equally randomized into western medicine group,Yangxue Gushen Decoction group and combination treatment group.The course of treatment lasted 6 months.Before and after treatment,the changes of pain score and BMD were observed.Results:In each group,there were significant differences of pain score(VAS score) before and after treatment(P 0.05).However,there were no significant differences of VAS score among the three groups after treatment(P 0.05).Hip BMD and general BMD were increased to various degrees in the three groups after treatment(P 0.05 or P 0.01 compared with those before treatment).The results of inter-group one-factor analysis of variance showed that the three kinds of therapy had an effect on BMD(P 0.05).The results of LSD-t test showed that no significant difference of BMD between western medicine group and Yangxue Gushen Decoction group(P 0.05).However,the differences of western medicine group vs combination treatment group,and of Yangxue Gushen Decoction group vs combination treatment group were significant(P 0.05).Conclusion:Yangxue Gushen Decoction has significant effect on women with postmenopausal osteoporosis,and the effect will be better if used together with western medicine.
