Abstract
Objective The aim of this study was to explore the ideal drug to treat the aged depression. Methods Sisty aged inpatients and outpatients with depression were randomly assigned to citalopram group and amitriptyline group, and treated for 6 weeks. Effects and side reactions were evaluated with HAMD and TESS before and after the treatment. Results The efficacy of citalopram was similar to that of amitriptyline, but citalopram took effects more quickly and had less side effects than amitriptyline. Conclusions Citalopram is an effective and safe drug in the treatment of aged depression.
