Abstract
Objective:To compare the efficacy and side effects of citalopram in the treatment of depression. Method: 84 inpatients and outpatients with depression were randomly assigned to citalopram group and amitriptyline group for 8 weeks.Effects and side reactions were evaluated with HAMD,CGI-SI and TESS before and after the treatment. Results:Findings indicated that the efficacy of citalopram was similar to that of amitriptyline, however citalopram took effect more quickly and its side effects were less than amitriptyline. Conclusion:Citalopram is an effective and safe antidepressant.
