Abstract
Objective It is to evaluate the clinical curative effect and untoward reaction of Quetiapine on brain organic mental disorder. Methods 74 patients with brain organic mental disorder were randomly divided into Quetiapine group and haloperidol group and treated and contrasted. The period of treatment was four weeks. The curative effect and untoward reaction were evaluated with the brief psychiatric rating scale (BPRS) and treatment emergent symptom scale (TESS).Results At the end of treatment, the scores of BPRS in both groups decreased significantly compared with that before treatment(P0.01). The clinical effective rate was 75.5% in Quetiapine group and that in haloperidol group was 70.3%, and there was no significant difference between the two groups. The untoward reaction in Quetiapine group was fewer than that in haloperidol group, especially tremor, akathisia, acute dystonia and muscle strain, and there was significant difference between the two groups (P0.05).Conclusion Quetiapine has similar curative effect to haloperidol in the treatment of brain organic mental disorder, but has less untoward reaction. Quetiapine is more applicable to the treatment of brain organic mental disorder.
