Abstract
Objective To study the association between high serum uric acid and cardiac function, serum lipid in patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods A total of 331 patients with type 2 diabetes were randomly selected, including 223 males and 108 females. The serum urea nitrogen(BUN),creatinine(Cr),uric acid(UA),triglycerides(TG),creatine kinase (CK),creatine kinase isoenzyme (CK-MB),lactic dehydrogenase (LDH),glucose(GLU),total cholesterol(TC),and HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C) were determined respectively in all the patients.According to UA level, the patients were divided into high UA group and normal UA group. Results Among 80 high UA patients, there were 54 males, the ratio of cardiac function damage was 50% (27/54);and 26 femals, the ratio was 42.31% (11/26).No statistically significant gender difference was found between the two groups (χ2=0.15,P0.70).However,after fully considering the gender factor, separately comparing the male and female patients with type 2 diabetes,as well as male ones in high UA group and normal UA group, there were statistically significant differences in each cardiac function index, including CK (P0.01),CK-MB (P0.05) and LDH (P0.01);but no statistically significant difference was found between female patients in the two groups on cardiac function. The UA level of male patients in high UA group was negatively correlated with TC (r=-0.291,P0.05) and TTG (r=-0.367,P0.01).The UA level of male patients in normal UA group was positively related to TC (r=-0.175,P0.05),but not related to TTG(r=-0.060,P=0.436).Conclusions High uric acid plays the critical role in cardiac function damage of patients with type 2 diabetes, especially for male ones, while for serum lipid the function can be of both directions.
