The Application of Oxidation-reduction Potential Water in the Treatment of Small Area Superficial of Burn Wounds

Abstract

Objective:To research the efficacy and clinical significance of oxiadation-reduction potential water in the treatment of small area superficialⅡdegree burn wounds.Methods:22 cases of outpatients, with non-electro-optic burns, flame burns, chemical burns wound which had not been contaminated or initially treated, were selected.The area of burn wounds was less than 3% of all body, mainly in upper or lower limbs.All the patients were randomly divided into two groups: treatment group and control group.The treatment group was treated with fresh prepared oxidation-reduction potential water (pH 2.1~ 2.5, ORP 1 100~1 200mv, chlorine 90~130mg/L) and the control group was treated with normal saline.The change of patients’ situations, the pain level of local burn wound and the smell of local secretions, as well as the healing speed and local bacterial culture of the local burn wound areas were observed.Results:There is no statistic difference in the area of burn wounds between the two groups.Compared with control group, the pain level of burn wound areas in treatment group were alleviated after 7 days(P0.05);the secretion of burn wound area in treatment group were less than control group at 3,5,7 and 10 days(P0.05);the positive bacteria culture result in treatment group were less than control group, (treatment group 1/11,control group 4/11, P0.05).Time for burn wound complete healing in treatment group and control group were (7.24±1.83) days and (10.32±1.74 )days(P0.05).Conclusion:In the treatment of superficial Ⅱ degree burn wounds, the oxidation-reduction potential of water can kill bacteria on the surface of burn wounds, reduce inflammation and exudation after injury, alleviate the pain and shorten the healing speed.The use of oxidation-reduction potential water is cheap and easy and effective in clinical practice.
