Abstract

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of paroxetine combined with risperidone in the treatment of refractory depression with psychotic symptoms. Methods 100 patients were randomized into study group(50 cases) treated with paroxetine combined with risperidone and control group(50 cases) treated with paroxetine monotherapy for 12 weeks.Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD) and Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale(TESS) were used to assess the efficacy and side effects respectively at the baseline and at the 2nd,4th,6th,12th weekend of the treatment. Results Efficacy of study group was significantly better than that in control group. The prevalence of extrapyramidal side effect(EPS) and weight gain in study group were higher than those in control group. Conclusion Risperidone can play a synergistic action in the treatment of refractory depression with psychotic symptoms.
