Abstract
Objective: To investigate the expression of PTEN protein in cerebral astrocytoma of various grades.Methods: The expression of PTEN protein was detected by immunohistochemical S-P method in 46 patients with cerebral astrocytoma.Results: The positive expression rate of PTEN protein was 63.4% in cerebral astrocytoma,and the positive expression rate in highly differentiated cerebral astrocytoma was significantly higher than that in poorly differentiated cerebral astrocytoma(P 0.01).The pathological grade was negatively correlated with the expression of PTEN protein in astrocytoma(r =-0.612,P 0.01).Conclusion: PTEN mutation and deletion plays a key role in the genesis and development of cerebral astrocytoma,and is closely correlated with the tumor differentiation.
