Abstract

Objective:To investigate PTEN protein expression in brain astrocytoma with various grades. Methods:Expression of PTEN protein was studied by immunohistochemical staining in 46 cases of astrocytoma. Results:The positive rate of PTEN protein was 63.4% in astrocytoma; The positive rates decreased with progression of pathological grade(p0.01);The pathological grade was associated with PTEN protein expression in astrocytoma(r=-0.612,p0.01).Conclusion:PTEN gene mutation and deletion play a key role in astrocytoma pathogenesis and progression;PTEN expression is closely correlated to tumor differentiation in astrocytoma.
