Purposes and Functions of "Literary History" Courses in Chinese Departments of Colleges and Universities

The functions of literary history courses in Chinese Departments of colleges and universities include optimization regrouping of knowledge, transformation of knowledge to humanization and life, transfer of spirit, cultivation of independent consciousness and creative spirit, etc. The acquisition of knowledge focuses on understanding process of knowledge formation and learning to proceed from known to unknown and learning to carry on lifelong study. Academic training is, in final analysis, training of scientific spirit of seeking truth, of scientific and pragmatic attitude and of scientific thinking as well as a cultivation of style of work and personality. There is a distinct division of labor at different phases between middle school Chinese education and literature courses in Chinese Departments of colleges and universities. As such, quo status of the shortage of education in literature aesthetics in middle school curriculum reform of Chinese education must be modified so as to show concern for development of personality on part of students.
