Abstract
Objective To evaluate a improved clean intermittent urethral catheterization in nonhospitalized spinal cord injury patients with bladder dysfunction.Methods Thirty patients with spinal cord injury were randomized to receive either improved clean intermittent urethral catheterization(experimental group) or clean intermittent urethral catheterization(control group).Bladder training was performed in all patients.Results There were no significant differences in urinary tract infection and impassable intubation between the two groups(P0.05).The techniques were mastered by training in all patients.The average number of training was(3.47±1.02) times in control group and(2.13±0.75) times in experimental group,and there were significant differences between the two groups(P0.05).The incidence of urethral bleeding in experimental group was significantly lower than that in control group(P0.05).Conclusion The improved clean intermittent urethral catheterization is simple and easy to master for nonhospitalized spinal cord injury patients and their family members.
