Abstract
Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of intermittent urethral catheterization for urinary retention induced by completed spinal cord injury(CSCI).Methods Thirty-six CSCI patients were randomized into two groups. The treatment group was given sterile intermittent urethral catheterization combined with scheduled water drinking, and the control group was given routine urinary tract nursing. The score of bladder function, urinary tract infection rate were examined before and after treatment, and comprehensive therapeutic effect was evaluated. Results The score of bladder function was improved in two groups after treatment for two weeks(P0.05 compared with that before treatment),and the improvement was obvious in the treatment group(P0.05).The urinary tract infection rate was higher in the treatment group than that in the control group(P0.05),and the comprehensive therapeutic effect in the treatment group was superior to that in the control group(P0.05).Conclusion Intermittent urethral catheterization combined with scheduled water drinking is effective on improving bladder function in patients with urinary retention induced by spinal cord injury.
