Abstract

Objective:To investigate the expression and clinical significance of 5-lipoxygenase(5-LOX) in breast cancer. Methods:SP immunohistochemical staining was used to detect the expression of 5-LOX protein in 74 cases breast cancer,24 cases para-carcinoma tissue and 18 cases normal breast tissue;and the relationship between 5-LOX expression and clinic pathological features of breast cancer was analyzed. Results:The positive expression rate of 5-LOX in breast cancer was obviously higher than para-carcinoma tissue and normal breast tissue(P0.01) . 5-LOX expression had positive correlation with tumor size, histological grade,TNM stage and lymph node metastasis(P0.05);but has no relations with age,ER and PR.Conclusions:5-LOX may play an important role in development and metastasis of human breast cancer and may be acted as an independent index to judge the prognosis of breast cancer.
